Step-by-step instructions on how to create a DIY personalised birthday gift using acrylic paints in 5 simple steps.

*No prior painting experience needed.

Create a unique, personalised birthday gift in under 10 minutes. You don’t need special painting skills or a bunch of time because you can make this gift super fast!

Sneak Peak

Need: Rubik’s Cube or Snake Cube, acrylic paints of your choice, Brush. That’s all!

Note: I am not good with a camera, so few images are blurry.

Is your friend’s birthday coming up? Is she a puzzle freak? Why not gift her a cool, personalised Snake cube?

DIY gifts are some of the best presents you can give! They show how much you care for the person; you can personalize them to suit your style, and they don’t burn a hole in your pocket.

So, here’s a fun way to personalise a Rubik’s cube or a Snake cube gift.

A Snake cube (image below) is a portable and easy puzzle. You can buy it online at a low price. I suggest you buy a wooden puzzle cube, as it is easier to paint.

You can use this method to create a personalised Rubik’s cube as well.

Step 1: Solve the cube

Here is a video on how to solve this puzzle: Snake cube solution

Step 2: Paint each side with a different colour

Choose any six colours of your choice and paint each side. Be careful near the borders. Make sure the adjacent sides aren’t similar colours.

I use Liquitex Basic Acrylic colours, but any acrylic colours of your choice will work.

You may use a simple brush or a sponge to paint the sides.

Make sure each side is properly dried out. You may use your hairdryer to dry the paint out quickly.

Step 3: Trace simple drawings of your choice using a pencil

If you aren’t a good painter, like me 😜, choose simple objects. I decided to go with a Snowman, Cactus Plants, Sunflowers, Fish, Moon, and a Smiley Face. All simple, easy-to-draw objects.

If you aren’t happy with the drawing, erase it and try again. :)

Step 4: Fill in the colours

Once you are happy with the drawing, fill in the colours. Feel free to go berserk! 😜 Choose the colours that make you happy! :)

Step 5: Varnish

Coat the Snake Cube with a Matte Varnish to seal in the paints. I used Decor Varnish Matte.

And Voila!

You now have an excellent DIY personalised birthday gift/painting craft. :)
